Applications of Artificial Intelligence in the Law, Artificial Intelligence Attorneys are Faster and Accurate than Human Lawyers

Laws are made to regulate human behavior. More broadly, the aim of law is to create order and justice in society. Therefore, in the realm of social life and state, law is a necessity. However, what if the community experiences legal problems?

If there is a legal problem, the public will use the services of lawyers to demand justice. But what if his lawyer is not human, but a software that can think?

Figure 1. Legal Symbols [2]

So far, we know that lawyers are all lawfully committed by humans, without any interference from software technology capable of thinking.

In contrast to research conducted by LawGeex  -based developers  of artificial intelligence, they consulted with law professors from several universities, such as Stanford University, Duke University Law School, and the University of Southern California.

The LawGeex artificial intelligence device is trained to evaluate a legal contract that is then “pitted” with twenty attorneys who are experienced in evaluating legal contracts.

In the legal world, lawyers handle a criminal matter that has the purpose of making the right decision in solving a case. The legal device will not work if there are only lawyers without any cases, and vice versa. This is what is tested on Artificial LawGeex,  solving several legal cases.

In his research,  LawGeex  competed with experienced lawyers in identifying 30 legal issues (consisting of 11 A4 pages, 153 paragraphs, and 3,213 clauses) and was given four hours. The legal issues include arbitration (settlement of a dispute), the secrecy of the relationship, to the issue of redress. Assessment of the research is a comparison of how accurate  Lawgeex is  in identifying and dealing with a legal problem over human beings.

The final result of the research is that human lawyers achieve an average accuracy of 85%, while Lawgeexachieves an accurate 94% in reviewing and identifying legal issues. Results are also measured in terms of time, ie how fast the two sides are able to review legal issues. The result of human lawyers takes an average of 92 minutes in analyzing 30 legal issues, while Lawgeex only takes an average of 26 seconds. [1] [2] [3] .

Based on these results, it is evident that Lawgeex  (which is artificial intelligence) has a better performance than humans in terms of reviewing and identifying legal issues. In terms of results, artificial intelligence is better, but it does not mean artificial intelligence directly replace the position of human being a lawyer, because in the legal world able to review and identify it is not enough to win a case.

Artificial Intelligence is a man-made product that depends on how humans enter data and train it ,  as in Lawgeex, has been consulted and trained with law professors from leading universities, such as Stanford University, Duke University Law School, and the University of Southern California.

Future Artificial Intelligence will be collaborated or cooperate with human lawyers in handling a case. The goal is that both intelligence between humans and artificial intelligence can be integrated to achieve much more accurate, faster, and better results.
